Copper & Cask Launches “X,” a 10-Year Barrel Proof Bourbon as Its First Permanent Release

Copper & Cask's new "X" permanent barrel proof bourbon release

The 10-year Bourbon blends 45 hand-selected barrels of 21% and 36% rye Bourbon, while Small Batch Series 17 and 18 add two new 9-year expressions to the lineup.

Copper & Cask is moving beyond its limited-release roots.

The independent blender and bottler has announced Copper & Cask “X,” a 10-year age-stated, barrel-proof Bourbon that marks the brand’s first permanent release. Rather than being a one-off small batch, “X” is intended to remain available year-round through ongoing small-batch drops.

That makes the release particularly notable for a brand that has built its identity around single-barrel selections and limited cask-strength releases. Copper & Cask currently describes itself as an independent bottler focused on single barrels and unique cask-strength whiskey.

The inaugural “X” release is scheduled to arrive at select retailers nationwide this month with an SRP of $69.99.

Going Deep Into the Barrel Inventory

According to Copper & Cask, the inaugural batch of “X” was built from 45 hand-selected barrels of 10- to 12-year-old Bourbon, all distilled at MGP Indiana.

The barrels spent their aging lives in multiple locations, including Kentucky, Indiana and Copper & Cask’s headquarters in Rhode Island.

The blend combines both low-rye Bourbon at 21% rye and high-rye Bourbon at 36% rye, giving Copper & Cask the opportunity to build a profile around the interaction between different mash bills rather than relying on a single recipe.

The company says the goal was to let the individual barrels contribute to a more layered final expression while showcasing what extended aging can bring to the whiskey.

The release is being made under the direction of Barrel Master Stephen Corrigan, who has led Copper & Cask’s barrel program since 2022 and brings nearly two decades of experience across distillation, aging and blending.

Corrigan says the company went “deep into” its inventory to find mature, distinctive barrels for the release, with the intention of creating a Bourbon capable of standing on its own at barrel proof.

And at 10 years old with a $69.99 suggested retail price, the positioning is aggressive. That’s especially true in a market where older, barrel-proof Bourbons can quickly move well beyond the $70 mark.

What Does Copper & Cask “X” Taste Like?

Copper & Cask describes “X” as a rich, dessert-leaning Bourbon.

Nose: Milk chocolate and salted caramel

Palate: Butterscotch, chocolate and almonds, followed by chocolate cake and cherry cola

Finish: Toffee, mocha and candied orange peel

The combination of mature Bourbon, two different rye profiles and barrel-proof strength should make “X” an interesting expression to watch once bottles begin reaching consumers.

There is also some early confirmation that the product is making its way through state-level distribution. For example, Texas’ alcohol regulatory records list Copper & Cask X as a 10-year Bourbon at 63.5% ABV, or 127 proof.

That puts the inaugural release firmly into barrel-proof territory.

“…the company went “deep into” its inventory to find mature, distinctive barrels for the release, with the intention of creating a Bourbon capable of standing on its own at barrel proof.”

Two More Small Batch Bourbons Join the Lineup

“X” isn’t the only new whiskey coming from Copper & Cask.

The company is also introducing two new members of its Small Batch Series:

Copper & Cask Small Batch 17 — 9-Year Cigar Blend Bourbon

Small Batch 17 is a 9-year Cigar Blend Bourbon Whiskey, continuing Copper & Cask’s recurring exploration of the cigar-friendly whiskey category.

Copper & Cask Small Batch 18 — 9-Year Double Oak Bourbon

Small Batch 18 is a 9-year Double Oak Bourbon Whiskey, bringing additional oak influence into the Small Batch lineup.

Both releases continue the rotating nature of Copper & Cask’s Small Batch Series. The brand’s previous batches have ranged considerably in age and style, including the 11-year Small Batch 16 released earlier this year.

State-level product registrations also show the company’s Small Batch 17 and 18 moving through distribution ahead of the launch, with filings listing the two expressions at approximately 59.1% and 60.1% ABV, respectively.

That gives Copper & Cask three new Bourbon releases to watch heading into the fall whiskey-buying season.

“By making it a permanent release, Copper & Cask is creating an identifiable flagship that consumers should theoretically be able to return to rather than chase down.”

Why This Matters

Copper & Cask “X” isn’t simply another older Bourbon added to an already crowded marketplace.

It’s a change in how the brand is approaching its portfolio.

Copper & Cask has historically leaned heavily into the appeal of discovery: individual barrels, rotating small batches and whiskey that may disappear once the available inventory is gone. Its current website still emphasizes that limited nature.

“X” takes a different approach.

By making it a permanent release, Copper & Cask is creating an identifiable flagship that consumers should theoretically be able to return to rather than chase down. And by blending 45 barrels across two different rye profiles and multiple aging locations, the company is also moving away from the single-barrel format in favor of consistency and repeatability.

That’s an important distinction.

If Copper & Cask can establish “X” as a reliable 10-year, barrel-proof Bourbon at $69.99, it could give the brand something that many independent bottlers struggle to build: a recognizable core expression consumers can actually come back for.

The timing also makes sense. Copper & Cask’s parent company, Latitude Beverage, has been expanding its spirits portfolio, while Copper & Cask has continued adding new Small Batch expressions throughout 2026.

“X” gives all of that experimentation a potential anchor.

Bourbon Bishop Bottom Line:

This is one I’ll be watching closely.

A 10-year, barrel-proof Bourbon built from 45 hand-selected barrels, combining low-rye and high-rye Bourbon, is an interesting proposition on its own. Add a $69.99 SRP, and Copper & Cask has put together a release that looks particularly compelling on paper.

But this is also exactly the kind of whiskey where the proof, age and price only tell part of the story.

Blending 45 barrels is a very different challenge from selecting one exceptional barrel. The real test for “X” will be whether Copper & Cask can turn those different components into something cohesive; and, perhaps more importantly, whether future batches can maintain that identity as inventory changes.

I’ll be interested to get a bottle in hand and see whether “X” lives up to the ambition behind its name.

Samples have been made available by Copper & Cask, and I’ll be putting “X” through a proper tasting once one arrives.

About Copper & Cask

Copper & Cask is built around a focused premise: find exceptional barrels, bottle them at full strength, and keep every release limited.

Founded in 2021, the brand set out to create an evolving library of aged whiskey—pulling from diverse sources and aging environments to shape unique profiles. Rather than relying on a core lineup, Copper & Cask intentionally operates without a flagship, choosing instead to release single barrels, micro batches, and small batch expressions that emphasize variation and discovery.

That approach sharpened with the addition of Barrel Master Stephen Corrigan in 2022. With over 15 years of experience across distillation, aging, and blending, Corrigan has helped build a refined cask finishing and blending program; one that prioritizes balance and enhancement over excess.

While much of the whiskey is sourced from Indiana, Copper & Cask leans into geographic aging diversity, maturing barrels across climates like Kentucky, Texas, Florida, and Rhode Island. The result is a portfolio shaped not just by mashbill or age, but by environment.

All releases are cask strength, limited, and intentionally varied, designed to showcase what careful selection and blending can achieve within the independent bottler space.
