Blending as an Art
Bardstown has helped elevate blending from something done behind the scenes into a central part of the whiskey-making process.
Its Discovery Series brings together different ages, mash bills, origins, and whiskey styles to create profiles that couldn’t come from a single barrel alone.
The blend is the product, not simply the sum of its parts.
Experimentation Without Apology
Finishing whiskey in unusual barrels is nothing new. BBC, however, has consistently pushed further; experimenting with Garryana oak, Mizunara, rum, wine, brandy, international whiskey, and increasingly unconventional maturation techniques.
The Distillery Reserve and Collaborative Series are where this philosophy is most visible, with releases designed to explore what happens when Kentucky whiskey is taken somewhere unexpected. BBC’s 2026 collaboration with Mars Whisky, for example, co-aged Kentucky bourbon and Japanese single malt in the same barrel.
Transparency
One of the things I appreciate most about Bardstown is its willingness to tell you what is actually in the bottle.
Age, mash bill, sourcing, finishing, proof, and production details are often much easier to find than they are with many premium whiskey releases.
That transparency doesn’t mean every bottle will be for everyone. It does mean you can make a more informed decision about whether it’s worth your money.
